I’d previously had a painting included in a book of art inspired by the the movie The Thing, published by a company called Printed in Blood. This time they were looking for artworks inspired by the films of Guillermo del Toro, so I selected his 1993 film “Cronos”. I went all out in the Victoriana style I had previously used for a series of works and created a piece resembling the scarab from the film, but giving the suggestion it was engraved with symbology inspired by the story. I created this in Photoshop, with a customised pencil brush I made, as I wanted to give it a hand drawn look with lots of visible linework, rather than a polished vector or painterly style. Unfortunately the planned book was never published but I’m still happy with the piece and will make prints available at some later date.
This piece was created as a 16×20 inch/300dpi file, so when zoomed in or printed large format it reveals lots of detail and texture, suitable for printing as an alternative movie poster.
